Frankfort Choice campaign sees gains this year

People were still making the Frankfort choice this holiday season as sales for the city-county wide campaign were up, revealing a slight increase over last year’s figures.
Mary Ellis, executive director of the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce, said Thursday 28,475 “Make the Frankfort Choice” checks were sold throughout the holiday shopping season. The numbers show only a small increase over last year’s sales of 27,000.
The campaign began about three years ago, Ellis said. At that time, area shoppers were spending only around 55 percent of their buying income at Frankfort’s stores and restaurants.
Since the campaign’s inception the buying income percentage has increased to 75 percent, according to Bob Sandlin, store manager of JCPenney and chamber member.
“That’s a big change,” said Sandlin.
