May bowls 300

To get ready for league play last Monday night, Ellen May threw three practice balls. Then she did what every bowler dreams of – rolled a perfect game.
May, of Frankfort, bowled her first 300 game Jan. 6 during Bud Light 600 Club League play at Eastland Bowling Center in Lexington.
“I threw three practice balls,” May said, “and two of them were strikes. When I threw my first game, I wasn’t thinking about a perfect game. I’d only thrown three practice balls, so there’s no way I’d bowl a 300.”
But that’s just what May did.
“After the sixth frame I thought I’m halfway there,” she said. “After I threw the ninth frame, I had a friend standing beside me and I said talk to me because I’m about to pass out. I was a nervous wreck.
“When I went up for the ninth frame there was not a doubt in my mind that I’d screw up, but I didn’t,” she added. “The ball was perfect. At the 10th frame I had no doubt I’d mess up the 10th and 11th balls. My legs were numb I was so nervous. But after the 11th frame I just felt like I was going to do it. I knew I had at least a 297, and I didn’t think about where I wanted to throw it. I didn’t hesitate.”
