Sewer project in Choateville gets more funds

Published 12:00 am Monday, February 17, 2003

The Choateville sewer project will get a $450,000 boost from federal funds under the appropriations bill passed by Congress last week.

The new funding comes a week after Franklin Fiscal Court voted to open bids for the project, which will cost more than $2 million. Contracts will be awarded in late April or early May.

U.S. Rep. Ernie Fletcher, R-Lexington, said this was among the projects he helped secure for Central Kentucky.

“I am pleased to announce this federal funding for the residents of Choateville and Franklin County, which will improve the quality of people’s lives and livability of this beautiful community,” Fletcher said. “With congressional passage of the 2003 funding bill, our citizens will have more resources to compete and prosper.”

Last year Fiscal Court was awarded a $1 million community development block grant for the sewer project that will serve about 215 households and six businesses in the Choateville community. County government has allocated $1 million for the project – $500,000 in each of its last two fiscal year budgets.
