VERSAILLES – Franklin County’s wrestling team will nearly double its state tournament participation after Saturday’s Region 7 wrestling tournament at Woodford County High School.

The Flyers will send five wrestlers to this year’s state tournament, up from three last year, and two other FCHS wrestlers are alternates. Western Hills will also have a wrestler at state, which begins Thursday at the Civic Center.

Qualifying for the state tournament are FCHS seniors Brandon Bailey, 171-pound class, and Brandon Schreiner, 125; juniors John Neville, 140, and David Alexander, 160; and sophomore Brandon Tingle, 135. Alternates are junior Sonny Whitson, 275, and seventh grader Ryan Tingle, 103.

Western Hills sophomore Jimmy Mullins qualified in the 140-pound class.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to state.

Woodford County won the team title with 289 points. Franklin County was fifth with 95 points, and Western Hills 10th with 13.
