The Franklin County boys basketball team overcame a horrid start Friday night to defeat Bourbon County 66-57 at FCHS.
The Flyers couldn’t hit anything early as the Colonels raced out to a 14-0 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter.
“It wasn’t that we were playing that bad, we just couldn’t make any shots,” said senior Daniel Moore, who was one of the Flyers struggling early. “Everything was in the basket and then out.”
Franklin County finally settled down, however, as forward Derrick Morris provided a spark with his offensive rebounding. His three-point play ended the Bourbon run.
By the end of the first period, FCHS trailed 21-10. While the Flyers started finding their shots, the Colonels lost their touch.
Quinn Hawkins, who scored 10 points in a 1:31 span in the first period, was held quiet in the second quarter, making just two foul shots.
The Flyers opened the second quarter with a 14-2 run and took the lead at 24-23 on a layup by Eric Eastman.
Franklin County led 39-34 at the half despite Bourbon’s Alex Wells banking in a three-pointer at the buzzer.
