VERSAILLES – The Current brothers were double trouble for Woodford County Friday night in the Boys 41st District championship game at WCHS.
The Frankfort duo, senior Chris and sophomore Will, both turned in double-double performances as the Panthers knocked off Jerome Givens and the Yellowjackets 71-66.
It’s the third straight district title for the Panthers, now 21-9. Frankfort has played in the last four title games, losing only to Franklin County in 2000 by four points.
Both FHS and Woodford advance to this week’s 11th Region tournament at Eastern Kentucky University.
“After our heartbreaker we lost to Franklin County my freshman year, we made a goal at that point to win on out,” Chris Current said of the district tournaments.
Will Current, the team’s point guard, led Frankfort in scoring Friday night with 21 points, and he dished out 10 assists. Chris Current added 14 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
Aaron Dunaway and Tory Robertson added 12 points each for Frankfort. Those four players help offset Givens, who poured in 41 points in a losing cause.
“We knew Jerome was going to get his points, we just had to make sure nobody else did anything big,” Will Current said.
