Local family waits to hear from Marine

Published 12:00 am Friday, April 18, 2003

Frankfort resident Ellis Bryant says the Marine Corps is a perfect fit for his son.

Mike Bryant, 23, a corporal in the Marines, was part of “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” where he was in the midst of urban combat missions.

Ellis Bryant said he hasn’t heard from his son since just before the fighting began in mid-March.

“No news is good news,” he said. “But we’ve been tracking his unit. He’s been pretty busy.”

Mike Bryant is part of the I Company 3rd Battalion 7th Marine 2nd Platoon 311 LARS unit in the Persian Gulf. He had known for months he’d be going to war, since he was stationed in California.

When he was home, the Marine’s father remembers, he told the family, “I’m well trained and I’m good at what I do. I’m ready to do my job. Now the reality has sunk in, and it’s a job I might not come back from.”
