Woodford tops Frankfort 16-5

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2003

Frankfort High assistant coach Bobby Wilson says he has a very young team, so task No. 1 this early in the softball season is keeping his Lady Panthers up mentally until their game comes around physically.

Wilson was all positive Tuesday afternoon after Frankfort dropped a 16-5 district softball game to the more experienced Woodford County Yellowjackets.

“You’ve got to be that way,” Wilson said after speaking to his team. “They’re young. I can’t fault them. We made a few errors there, but they’re a great group of kids. And I told them this would be the toughest week of the season – this first week. And it has been. Because of the competition and because we’re so young.

“But we’ll come back on these teams.”

The game did not have the feel of a rout, despite the score. Woodford did not knock the cover off the softball against Frankfort pitcher Cassie Aldridge.

The Yellowjackets came up with 13 hits, but they are pretty scattered.

Woodford scored two runs in the first on four hits, but two of the hits were infield singles. They added two runs in the second on just two hits, one of them an infield single.

Woodford broke it open with seven runs in the third but on just four hits.
