Walker brings high-powered offense, high hopes to FCHS

For years when Gary Moore coached basketball and Tom Roberts coached football at Franklin County High School, they used to have what they called an “All Hallway Team,” meaning kids who were good athletes but for various reasons chose not to come out for sports.

Donny Walker hopes, as Roberts did before him, to attract the talent needed to turn the Flyers’ football program back in a winning direction.

Walker was hired as the new football coach at Franklin County this past week, taking over for Roberts.

Walker, 32, comes to Frankfort after five years at Marion County in Lebanon. He was the offensive coordinator the past three years and receivers coach and freshman and junior varsity coach for two years before that.

Franklin County football fell on hard times the past two seasons as the talent pool dried up, but Walker hopes his high octane passing offense will cause the ‘all hallway’ talent to dry up, so to speak.

“I think the offense I’m bringing will entice more kids to come out,” Walker said Thursday night at a meeting with the Flyers’ football booster club. “It’s really the same type of offense that UK used in the Hal Mumme era.”
