Hitting wasn’t the problem for the Frankfort High softball team Friday afternoon versus Owen County.
The problem was the Lady Panthers were hitting the ball right to the Lady Rebel defenders.
Owen County went on to win the game 8-4 at Lakeview Park. It was the final game of the regular season for Frankfort.
Frankfort managed just two hits against Owen County pitchers Allison Haydon and Ashlie Kermicle, but the Lady Panthers made solid contact with the softball throughout the game.
Owen County always managed to be in the right place at the right time defensively.
“We hit the ball hard all game long,” said FHS assistant coach Bobby Wilson. “We’ve hit the ball well the past six games, actually. Today, we just hit it right to them.
“Amanda Moore hit a shot to second base today and even though they caught it, I’ll take hits like that any day.”
Owen County built a 6-0 lead through 5 1/2 innings before Frankfort finally put a run across in the sixth. The Lady Panthers had several opportunities to score prior to that, but four runners were left stranded in scoring position.
Frankfort’s run in the sixth came when Moore singled, stole second and scored on a rare Owen County error. That error put Cassie Aldridge on second with no outs, but Brittni Wilhoite was robbed of a sure hit in right field on the ensuing play. Aldridge, who headed to third at the time, was picked off at second after the catch.
