Kentucky Employees Credit Union cranked out 14 hits and rode a strong pitching performance from Krystal Cammuse to win the Minor League softball tournament with a 15-5 victory over White Castle Thursday night at Lakeview Park.
KECU went undefeated in the tournament, winning all three games, while White Castle advanced to the championship with two wins from the losers bracket.
The first three innings of each Minor League game is played with a pitching machine while pitchers are used in the last three.
White Castle took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Lakan Reed, but KECU answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Chelsea Brown tripled for KECU and she scored on an error. The only other hits in the inning were RBI singles by Ashli Mayes and Sara Watts as White Castle committed five errors.
White Castle pulled to within 5-3 on its next at-bat. Chelsey Spencer reached on an error, and McKenzie Rhodes reached on an infield hit. Anna Meador singled to load the bases, and Mattie Hutcherson brought home Spencer and Rhodes with a base hit.
KECU tacked on four more runs in its half of the second on four hits, the big one coming on a two-RBI double by Tessa Barnes.
Now trailing 9-3, White Castle got back-to-back solo home runs from Catalina Hopper and Reed, but those were the final runs for the team.
