Chenault and Hoge won four games out of the losers bracket before knocking off winners bracket champion American Legion Monday night in the finals of the Babe Ruth baseball tournament.

That win, a 6-2 victory, forced a decisive game two of the championship, to be played tonight at Franklin County High School at 6. The tournament is double elimination.

American Legion, the regular season champion, lost just one game this summer before falling to Chenault and Hoge Monday.

Chenault and Hoge got off to a good start Monday against American Legion with two runs in the top of the second inning.

After Justin Muravchick and Justin Jennings scored for Chenault and Hoge, American Legion answered with a run in the third. With two outs, Matt Harris reached on an error and Wesley Russell, running for Harris, eventually scored on a hit by Blake Baker.

Chenault and Hoge added three runs in the top of the fourth. Chase Schneider reached on an error to start things off, and Colton Riggs also reached on an error. Jarrod Braden singled to load the bases before Schneider and Riggs scored on a base hit by Richard Weese.

After a strikeout, Jordan Hall reached on a fielder’s choice, which forced out Braden. Muravchick doubled to score Weese, but Hall was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with C&H up 5-1.

American Legion scored its final run when Chase Straw led off the bottom half of the inning with a base hit. Straw stole second and went to third on a fielder’s choice. He scored on an error.
