U.S. 60 project stuck in slow lane

One-hundred-and-fifty-eight days seem a decade sometimes.
And 158 “working days” feels like an eternity, especially if you’re waiting for the U.S. 60 west road-widening project to be completed before you schedule the grand opening of your new business.
Larry and Brenda Bryant opened L&B Pawnbrokers at 1600 Louisville Road in April 2002. They thought the highway construction would be finished by the end of this summer.
“I think it’s going to be great when it’s finished,” Brenda Bryant said Friday afternoon. “I just wish they would get it done. I think it’s gone on way too long.
She believes the construction delays have hurt their business some, “because a lot of people just don’t want to come out here due to the mess.
“Our plan is to have a nice grand opening with a cookout when the construction is finished. When it wasn’t finished last summer, we heard it would be no later than November of last year. Then it was June of this year. Now it’s almost the middle of July. But we’re hanging in here.”
