LEXINGTON – The Frankfort Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars rallied from a 9-0 deficit, but the rally fell short Thursday night as St. Matthews came away with a 10-6 win in the East State Baseball Tournament.
Frankfort dropped to the losers bracket with the loss and will play Richmond tonight at 5:45 at Shillito Park.
St. Matthews jumped out on top early with three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and five in the third.
Frankfort finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third.
Devin Leitch led off with an infield hit and he stole second. A wild pitch moved Leitch to third, and he scored on a base hit by Matt Hyatt.
Hyatt also stole second base, moved to third on a ground ball hit by Adam Johnson, and scored on a wild pitch.
Nick Dewees’ RBI-double in the next inning gave St. Matthews a 10-2 lead, but that was the final run scored by the team.
