Brown leds Boone by four strokes

Brandon Brown of Shelbyville finds himself in a commanding position with a four-stroke lead going into the final round of the 54-hole Daniel Boone Invitational at Frankfort Country Club.

Brown is at 4-under-par 138 on rounds of 68-70.

Brian Cook of Louisville and Frankfort’s Larry Grasch are tied for second at 142. Cook has shot 67-75 and Grasch 71-71.

John Sutterlin is at 143.

Howard Logan, the defending champ and five-time winner, is at 144, along with Swain Beard and Bill Woolums.

The leaders tee off today at 1:40 p.m.

Brown should be an overwhelming favorite to win the tournament for the second time. He won it three years ago at age 18, and lost it by one stroke last summer when Logan eagled the 18th.

“I’ve got a pretty good chance,” admitted Brown, who’s the No. 1 player on the men’s golf team heading into his senior year at Eastern Kentucky University. “I just have to go out there and play my game and see what happens.”
