The Commodores, currently ranked fourth in the state, defeated 20th-ranked FCHS 3-1 Thursday night at Sower Soccer Field.
“I thought we did OK,” Franklin County coach David Rice said. “We competed, and we showed we can play with anyone in the state. They definitely were the better team. They’re a really good team, mostly seniors.”
But it was the Flyers who drew first blood Thursday, scoring on a goal by Brandon Eddins for a 1-0 lead with 27:19 left in the first half. About 6 1/2 minutes later Tates Creek tied the match on a goal by Sean Cottrill, and Daniel Stacy’s crossing shot into the far corner of the net gave the Commodores a 2-1 halftime lead.

“I thought Thomas Baker and Grant Goins came in and gave us a spark,” Rice said. “They took over the middle.
