K-State defeats Lane

Kentucky State’s football team fell behind 7-0, then scored 37 straight points to beat Lane College 37-7 Saturday night in Jackson, Tenn.

The Thorobreds remain unbeaten in the SIAC with a 4-0 record and are 5-1 overall.

Lane (2-4, 1-3) scored on its second play from scrimmage with a 69-yard pass from Kenneth Irby to Jacoby Jones. Enrique Corona kicked the extra point, and Lane led 7-0 with 14:11 left in the first quarter.

K-State came back and scored less than three minutes later on a five-yard run by Brandon Adams with Scott Lambert kicking the extra point. That tied the game at 7-all with 10:39 remaining in the first quarter, and the score was 7-7 at the end of the period.

KSU took a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Lambert. Lane had to punt on its next possession, and the punt was blocked. KSU’s Greg Shiddell recovered the ball and went 10 yards for a touchdown and a 17-7 lead.

Roni Robinson closed out the first-half scoring with a five-yard run with 47 seconds left on the clock, giving the Thorobreds a 24-7 halftime lead.

Kentucky State closed out the scoring in the third quarter with two field goals by Lambert, covering 46 and 40 yards, and a 15-yard touchdown run by Cassius Chambers.
