Athletic boosters may unite

Frankfort High School’s 16 athletic groups may join together for more efficient fund raising.

Exploration to form an umbrella FHS athletic booster organization was approved Tuesday by the Frankfort Independent Board of Education.

FHS Athletic Director Alan Spade told the board the groups would be more efficient in fund raising by uniting. Working together would curb soliciting the same businesses because they would know which have been contacted and which haven’t.

“The organization would do several different things, so they wouldn’t focus only on fund raising,” Spade said. “In addition to fund raising, we would help with concessions and events. Also, we have a group of parents who are excited to work together on this.”

Spade said all the money earned by the booster club would go to the general athletic fund, and some of it would help meet the coaches’ budgets.

Chairman Gilmore Dutton commended Spade for his efforts.

“At this point the board says go ahead, and when you finalize things then come back to us and then we will say yay or nay,” Dutton said.
