Puss to get boot?

This is the story of the cat who took over the Governor’s Mansion.

Trixie, a 3 to 4-year-old feline, has been living at the mansion since the spring of 2000, bewitching staff and first lady Judi Patton into free housing, free Meow Mix and lots of extra attention.

According to Gov. Paul Patton’s Press Secretary Chris Kellogg, Trixie is a dutiful state employee, who deters pests like rodents and raccoons which trespass on state grounds. She even has her own mailbox in the basement of the house and a stocking at Christmas (a framed picture of Trixie hangs on the basement wall as you walk in the door).

“She’s the magic cat. I mean, what can you say?,” laughed the first lady, one of Trixie’s biggest fans. “She knew a good thing when she saw it.”

But with the Patton administration leaving office in December, lots of staff members around the mansion are wondering one thing: Will Trixie be a victim of transition too?

Pose the question to Patton, Kellogg, and mansion security and they just look at each other with unease and say, “We don’t know.”
