Dragnet on the Internet

Pedophiles who trade child pornography online are often very smart and use advanced technology to swap their wares to avoid being detected.
Franklin County Constable Russ Campbell was arrested earlier this month after an undercover FBI agent reported he was posting pornographic images of a 4 or 5-year-old girl engaged in oral and genital sex with an adult male on the Internet.
Campbell, a constable for more than 20 years, pleaded innocent to the charges at his arraignment Dec. 15 in U.S. District Court in Lexington.
Law enforcement agents say the Internet has become an integral part of the distribution of child pornography and serves as a prime tool for those who try to hook up with children online to molest them.
An affidavit by an FBI agent said Campbell posted pornographic images online in July 2003. The investigation of Campbell was part of an ongoing FBI investigation called the Innocent Images National Initiative.
