Constable in jail until trial

In a green jail uniform and with his legs shackled, Russ Campbell looked on quietly as his attorney said he would remain in jail while awaiting trial on child pornography charges.
Campbell, a local constable arrested earlier this month for allegedly distributing child pornography, appeared briefly Monday in U.S. District Court in Lexington for a detention hearing. The charges stem from a probe by federal investigators finding that Campbell possessed and distributed child pornography.
Campbell is being held without bond at Fayette County Detention Center. His attorney, David Guarnieri did not protest a federal request to have Campbell remain in custody until further legal proceedings.
The news came just moments after federal prosecutors learned Campbell had been indicted locally for sex abuse. Earlier Monday, a Franklin County Grand Jury handed down an indictment alleging Campbell had raped, sodomized and sexually abused a female under the age of 12.
The indictment also charges Campbell with one count of using a minor female under 16 in a sexual performance and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor female under 16.
