Katherine Diamond Smith, 96, passed away January 22, 2013, at home.
Services for Mrs. Smith will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Her nephew, Rev. James Diamond, will officiate. Burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Smith was born April 26, 1916, the daughter of the late Joseph Walter Diamond Sr. and Addie Wash Diamond. She was the oldest living alumna of Elkhorn High School. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of Kentucky State Government working in the Department of Revenue and Department of Transportation. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Magna Charta Dames, Colonial Order of the Crown, Jamestown Society, Daughters of the Pilgrims, Frankfort DAR Chapter, Daughters of the Colonists and Daughters of the Union.
She is survived by two daughters, Anne Katherine S. Smith (Lawrence) and Jane Walker Smith White; six grandchildren, Mark A. Vaughn (Mary), Susan Clark (Steve), Robert Hunter (Kathy), Rhonda Hunter Kays, Paula Perkins (Steven), Steven White II; 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane Roser.
Mrs. Smith was the widow of Robert Walker Smith and in addition to her parents was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Matthew Vaughn and Walker Kays; her brother, Joseph Walter Diamond Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Norris.
Mark Vaughn, Robert Hunter, Steven White II, Steve Clark, Hunter Kays and Landon Kays will serve as bearers. Honorary bearers will be Steven Perkins, Bradley Kays and Lawrence Smith.
