Buffalo Trace’s 15th annual Lighting of the Trace is TONIGHT. A candlelight tour of the distillery begins at 6 followed by the lighting ceremony, featuring the Kentucky State University Choir, at 7.
The Bluegrass Theatre Guild’s staging of “The Miracle on 34th Street, the Play” opens at 7:30 p.m. TONIGHT at the Grand Theatre. The play continues at 7:30 Friday and Saturday and concludes with a 2:30 matinee Sunday.
Frankfort High School Drama Club presents “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, concluding with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. All performances are in the school’s Karen Kimmel Hatter Theatre, 328 Shelby Street. No advance tickets will be sold. Admission is $6, with students admitted for $3 and senior citizens and preschoolers for $2.
Alton Christian Church, 1686 Old Frankfort Road, Lawrenceburg, will host a living nativity scene from 6-9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. There is no admission and refreshments will be served.
The Shelby County Community Theatre will produce “A Christmas Carol,” adapted by Michael Paller from the story by Charles Dickens. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the theatre, 801 Main St. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 seniors and $10 students, and may be purchased by calling 502-633-0242.
The 65th annual Jaycees Christmas Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Old State Office Building. It will proceed up Mero and Ann streets to Broadway, Washington, Main and back onto High to the staging area. The parade will be held regardless of the weather.
First United Methodist Church, 211 Washington St., presents “Miraculum,” a musical journey telling the greatest story at 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. The event is free but tickets are required and seating is limited. Call 502-227-7430 for tickets and/or more information.
The Kentucky State University Concert Choir and Concert Band will present a free concert 4 p.m. Sunday in the Carl H. Smith Auditorium in Bradford Hall on the Kentucky State University campus.
Lessons and Carols, a traditional candlelit service to benefit the Resource Office of Social Ministries (ROSM), will be held 5 p.m. Sunday at Church of the Ascension, 311 Washington St. The service will feature traditional scripture readings and music for Advent.
Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, 495 Duckers Road, Midway, “What Sweeter Music,” a festival of carols presented by the church’s choir, orchestra, children’s choir and soloists. The event will be staged 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with doors opening at 5.
The Sanctuary Choir of Evergreen Baptist Church, 2698 Evergreen Road, will present “Christ Was Born For This” during the 11 a.m. service Sunday. This musical narrative explores the reason why Christ was born.
Western Hills High School’s Celebration Chorus Concert is 7 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium at the school.
The Capital City Chorale will bring its Christmas performance, “Cobbler and Cream,” to the Kentucky History Center, 7 p.m. Tuesday. In addition to the Chorale, the event will include special vocal and brass ensembles. Dessert and conversation will follow the program. The cost is $10/person.
Morning Pointe, 68 C. Michael Davenport Blvd., will host a Christmas open house and silent auction beginning at 5:30 Tuesday. All proceeds from a silent auction in conjunction with the event will go to the Alzheimer’s Association. Refreshments will be served.
The Lantern at Morning Pointe, 66 C. Michael Davenport Blvd., will host a Festival of Trees from 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 12. A silent auction featuring decorated trees, wreaths and gift baskets will be held with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association. Refreshments will be served.
Bridgeport Christian Church, 175 Evergreen Road, presents “Somebody Build a Manger” at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and Dec. 15. The program will feature sacred and secular songs of the season. A nursery is provided. For more information visit bridgeportchristian.org.
The Frankfort School of Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Grand Theatre, 308 St. Clair St. General admission is $10 and preferred seating is $15. The 114th Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held in the Frankfort area Dec. 14. Audubon and other organizations use data collected in this longest-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations — and to help guide conservation action.
