“The day is here, the time is now” is the title of a temporary exhibit opening March 4 and continuing through Aug. 31 at the Capital City Museum, 325 Ann St. The exhibit remembers the 1964 Freedom March in Frankfort led by Martin Luther Jr.
The exhibit will feature photographs, films, and objects that tell the story of that critical event in the civil rights movement in Kentucky.
Enlarged photographs taken in Frankfort on that historic day half a century ago make up most of the exhibit. The still images are reinforced by films, some of which have never before been seen by the public, and video interviews with key participants.
The opening reception is at 6 p.m. March 4. There is no admission charge to enter the museum or to see the exhibit.
The City of Frankfort’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Sites operates the museum. Regular hours of operation are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
