BOSTON (AP) -- An Iraq war veteran from Massachusetts has found a new career at sea on a swordfish boat.

Erick Valiente served in 2006 as a Marine infantryman. The assignment left him with post-traumatic stress disorder and a restlessness that made finding work difficult.

But a friend from U.S. Sen. John Kerry's office told him about an opening on a swordfish boat, and Valiente took him up on it.

The boat owner, Tim Malley of Boston, specifically sought out veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, knowing they needed work and thinking they'd have the fortitude and discipline for the tough job.

The 27-year-old Valiente just came back from his first trip to sea to good reports. Malley said he'll seek a veteran the next time he has an opening.
