ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- The body of renowned long-distance runner Micah True has been recovered from a remote area of southern New Mexico.
State Police Lt. Robert McDonald says crews recovered the body Sunday and turned it over to the Office of the Medical Investigator.
Their efforts in the rugged Gila (HEE'-luh) Wilderness came after a searcher found True's body Saturday evening. True disappeared Tuesday after leaving a lodge for a 12-mile run, and a search was launched the next day when his friends reported the 58-year-old hadn't returned.
The runner's cause of death is still unknown. There were no obvious signs of trauma, and McDonald says it could take a couple of days before authorities know what happened.
