Leeds manager Grayson fired after Birmingham loss

LEEDS, England (AP) -- Leeds manager Simon Grayson has been fired following the team's 4-1 loss to Birmingham in the second-tier League Championship.

The 42-year-old Grayson, who began his playing career at Leeds in 1988, led the team to promotion from League One in 2010. But with 18 games remaining this season, the club has failed to make a serious promotion challenge.

The former Blackpool manager had led the team for just over three years.

Youth team manager Neil Redfearn will take charge of the first team temporarily.
