Pressure builds on Illini coach Weber

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Mike Thomas has been busy since taking over as athletic director at Illinois last summer. He fired football coach Ron Zook and hired Tim Beckman to replace him.

Thomas is about to start raising money to renovate Assembly Hall even as grumbling fans want him to fire men's basketball coach coach Bruce Weber. Illinois has lost six of its last seven game.

Thomas won't say what he plans to do. He says he will evaluate Weber at the end of the season. But he also says he expects Illinois to make the NCAA tournament and "make some noise" when it gets there.

Weber is among Illinois' winningest coaches. His team played in the national title game in 2005.
