Report: Leverkusen players to give up Messi shirts

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) -- Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director has criticized two of his players for changing jerseys with Lionel Messi during and after the team's 3-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona.

Rudi Voeller says in Thursday's edition of German daily Bild that the eagerness of defenders Michal Kadlec and Manuel Friedrich to acquire the Argentina star's shirt on Tuesday was "definitely a bit too much."

Bild reports that Kadlec exchanged shirts with Messi at halftime, only for Friedrich to take it off him outside the changing rooms.

Kadlec, who scored Leverkusen's goal, then exchanged shirts a second time after the final whistle.

Voeller says "I guarantee that Kadlec and Frederick will auction their Messi jerseys for a good cause."
