CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois coach Bruce Weber says he hopes to finish his career at Illinois.
Weber's job is in jeopardy after losing seven of eight. After losing Wednesday to Purdue, he said he had failed to build a culture of toughness at Illinois (16-10, 5-8) and criticized his players.
Weber told reporters Friday that his players said his message about being tougher was clear and justified. He says he has lost some fans but still believes many are behind him.
Weber declined to say whether he had considered resigning after nine years at Illinois. He pointed that his team has 16 wins and could make an argument for an NCAA tournament berth.
Illinois plays at Nebraska on Saturday.
