PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Cameron Maybin doesn't have the long-term contract he wants from the San Diego Padres, but that isn't a problem for him. The center fielder said he already has all the security he needs.
Maybin, who came to the Padres in a trade from the Marlins in November 2010 for two relievers, finally has the confidence of knowing he has an everyday job.
Maybin played in a career-high 137 games in 2011 and hit .264 with nine homers, 40 RBIs and 40 stolen bases. While he'd love to sign a long-term deal with the Padres, something he and the team have indicated an interest in accomplishing since September, Maybin is satisfied with his starting status. He also has no interest in talking about a new contract now that he has checked into camp.
