PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) -- Davis Love III looked more like a player than Ryder Cup captain.
Love made a hole-in-one on the 197-yard fifth hole, birdied three straight holes to close out his front nine and tied the course record with a 6-under 64 for the early lead Thursday in the Honda Classic.
He was two shots ahead of a group that includes Rory McIlroy, who needs to win to go to No. 1 in the world. McIlroy made it look easy until a three-putt on his 17th hole for his lone bogey.
Love isn't reading too much into his early round on a soft PGA National course with little wind in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He called it nothing more than a good start.
Tiger Woods was among those playing in the afternoon.
