Portsmouth could fold before end of season

PORTSMOUTH, England (AP) -- Portsmouth's finances are so dire that the former Premier League club may go out of business before the current English football season ends in May.

The south coast club is in the relegation zone of the second-tier League Championship after having 10 points deducted for entering bankruptcy protection last month for the second time in two years.

Club administrator Trevor Birch says that former owner Sacha Gaydamak is receiving payments that would ordinarily go directly to the club and that there is "a real possibility that we may not be able to fulfill the season's fixtures."
