SYDNEY (AP) -- Substitute Troy Hearfield headed an equalizer in injury time to earn Central Coast a 1-1 draw with marquee club Sydney FC to preserve its place atop Australian football's A-League.

Second-placed Brisbane also drew 1-1 at home to the Melbourne Heart to stay three points behind Central Coast with three matches remaining in the regular season.

Sydney FC remained three points outside the top six teams which will contest the playoffs, while the star-studded Melbourne Victory lost 3-1 at home to Newcastle to remain in eighth place and an almost unbridgeable eight points from playoffs contention.

Perth beat Adelaide 2-0 in Adelaide to stay in third place, five points behind Brisbane and a point ahead of Wellington which was due to host troubled Gold Coast on Sunday.
