LAHTI, Finland (AP) -- Jan Schmid of Norway won a Nordic combined World Cup event on Saturday after pulling away from Germans Tino Edelmann and Johannes Rydzek for his second career victory.

Schmid was 12th after the ski jump portion but worked his way up the field in the 10-kilometer cross-country race to finish in 23 minutes, 43.3 seconds. Edelmann was 4.3 seconds back in second place, while Rydzek was 5.2 behind in third.

Strong wind forced organizers to cancel Saturday's ski jump, meaning the results from Thursday's qualification round were used.

Edelmann started second in the cross-country race and broke away early. But Schmid attacked on the course's final climb to close a gap of 20 seconds to Edelmann. He had built a gap of 100 meters when he entered the final downhill portion into the stadium.
