CLEVELAND (AP) -- Buffalo's Mitchell Watt has been named the Mid-American Conference player of the year. Eastern Michigan's Rob Murphy is the MAC's top coach.

Watt is averaging 16 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.4 blocks for the Bulls. He was one of four players to receive votes by a 24-member media panel. Miami's Julian Mavunga finished second. Watt joins Turner Battle (2005) as the only Buffalo players to win the award.

The Bulls are the No. 2 seed in this week's conference tournament.

Murphy, who guided the Eagles to the MAC West title in his first year, edged out Akron's Keith Dambrot.

Murphy is one of just four coaches to win coach of the year honors in his first season in the MAC. He previously worked as an assistant at Syracuse and Kent State.
