Dayton kicks off NCAA men's tourney with festival

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- The city of Dayton is throwing a street party complete with food and music as it celebrates its role in kicking off the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The First Four Festival was scheduled Sunday afternoon in conjunction with the NCAA making its selections for the tournament.

Eight of those teams will tip off in Dayton for the opening games starting Tuesday, when President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron are slated to visit to catch some of the action.

Vail Miller Jr. of festival sponsor Heidelberg Distributing tells The Dayton Daily News ( ) it would be beneficial for the city to convince the NCAA that Dayton should continue as the opening site of the tournament. It's already scheduled to host the First Four again next year.
