Swedish biathlete Ekholm to retire after season

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- Swedish biathlon star Helena Ekholm says she will retire at the end of this season.

The 27-year-old wrote on her website that the mass start at the biathlon world championships in Ruhpolding, Germany, on Sunday will be her last big championship event. She will also complete the final three World Cup events in Russia.

She wrote that she doesn't have the motivation needed to train for the 2014 Olympics and feels it is "time to move on to new challenges in life."

Ekholm has won two individual world championship golds, in 2009 and 2011, and helped Sweden win the mixed relay at the 2007 world championships.
