Boca beats Arsenal 2-1 in Copa Libertadores

BUENOS AIRES (AP) -- Pablo Ledesma volleyed in the winner for Boca Juniors as it defeated fellow Argentine side Arsenal 2-1 on Wednesday in Group 4 of the Copa Libertadores.

The win is the Buenos Aires club's first of this season's Copa Libertadores and comes off the back of two defeats in the last week, one to Brazil's Fluminense and the other to Independiente in the Argentine first division.

In the other Group 4's match, Fluminense defeated Venezuela's Zamora 1-0 in Brazil.

The results mean Fluminense moves to nine points from three games in first place, Boca has four points in second, Arsenal stays on three points and Zamora has one point. The top two teams qualify for the knockout stage.

Later Wednesday, Paraguay's Libertad plays Brazil's Vasco da Gama in Group 5, with Mexican side Cruz Azul hosting Brazil's Corinthians in Group 6.

Arsenal took the lead in the 10th minute when Boca's Clemente Rodriguez poked a low, left wing cross into his own net, with little pressure from the attackers.

Pablo Mouche got the equalizer for Boca in the 29th minute, sliding the ball past the goalkeeper after a rebound put him through on goal.

Ledesma timed a late run into the area perfectly and hit a low, first time volley into the net from a left wing cross in the 68th to score the winner for Boca.

Luciano Leguizamon almost equalized for Arsenal ten minutes later, but could not direct the ball goalwards from five yards (meters) out, with the goalkeeper out of position.

In Rio de Janeiro, Anderson scored with a right-footer from outside the area in the 58th, to maintain Fluminense's perfect record in this season's competition.

Fluminense dominated the game, forcing Zamora goalkeeper Alvaro Forero into a number of saves, while Zamora had few opportunities.
