MADRID (AP) -- Ten-man Mallorca held on to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Sunday and hand coach Diego Simeone only his second defeat since taking over at the Spanish club at the start of the year.
Only Barcelona had previously managed to beat Simeone's Atletico, but an own goal by Diego Godin in the 47th minute, followed by Michael Pereira's goal two minutes later put Mallorca in charge -- just before Ivan Ramis was shown a red card.
Radamel Falcao's 17th goal this season cut the deficit in the 66th minute but Atletico couldn't avoid losing ground on Levante, which beat Villarreal 1-0 to go fourth.
Xavi Torres' stoppage time winner led Villarreal to fire coach Jose Molina after just 11 games.
Spanish leader Real Madrid plays Malaga later.
