AUXERRE, France (AP) -- Struggling Auxerre has fired coach Laurent Fournier following Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Evian.
Auxerre is second-last in the French league and five points away from safety with 10 games remaining.
The team announced on its website that club President Gerard Bourgoin called a meeting Sunday morning to inform the players that Fournier, who took charge at the start of the season, had been fired. A new interim coach was expected to be announced later Sunday.
Auxerre, which played in the Champions League last season, has not won a league game since the resumption of the league after its winter break, and has yet to win away from home.
Fans protested before Saturday's game, calling for the entire board to resign.
