El Salvador, Canada tie 0-0 in Olympic qualifying

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- El Salvador missed several scoring chances Thursday night, opening CONCACAF Olympic qualifying in Group A with a 0-0 tie against Canada.

Jonathan Aguila had room in front of the net in the 90th minute when he went down in pain, missing the pass. He was placed on a stretcher and carried off the field. El Salvador, which will play Cuba on Saturday, also had Andres Flores kick the ball over the crossbar in the 59th minute on a pass from Jaime Alas.

Isidro Gutierrez had two chances to score in the first half. Keeper Michal Misiewicz came out and got his right hand on the ball. Then Gutierrez sent the rebound wide left in the 20th minute.

Canada will play the United States squad on Saturday in this round-robin tournament. The top two teams advance to the semifinals March 31 in Kansas City.
