SAO PAULO (AP) -- Police say at least two people were shot during fan violence involving more than 500 people before a match between Corinthians and Palmeiras in Brazil.

The two men shot were hospitalized but their condition was not immediately known.

Authorities says the fight involved groups between 500 to 1,000 people each. Police had to use tear gas and rubber bullets to halt the confrontation Sunday morning.

At least four people were detained.

Police were investigating reports the fight was set up ahead of time on social media networks.

Earlier this week, authorities prohibited fan groups from Campinas city rivals Guarani and Ponte Preta from attending their teams' matches because of fighting that led to the death of a fan.
