US long jump champ Goodwin injured

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas junior Marquise Goodwin, the current U.S. long jump champion, withdrew from the Texas Relays on Saturday with school officials citing an unspecified injury.

Track coach Bubba Thornton refused to provide details on the injury or when it happened, but noted he wanted Goodwin to get well in time for the Big 12 championships in May. The Olympic trials begin June 22.

Goodwin ran in the 100 meter preliminaries on Friday but had a poor race and did not make the final. He was supposed to compete in the 400 relay and the long jump on Saturday. Goodwin was pulled from the relay team and school officials announced he was out of the meet about an hour before the long jump started.

Goodwin was the NCAA champion in 2010.
