OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -- Becky Winemiller's Wine Princess raced to a front-running 2 1/4-length victory over Proud Pearl in the $100,000 Monmouth Oaks at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
A daughter of 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, Wine Princess ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.11. The Steve Margolis-trained 3-year-old fill paid $5.60, $3.60 and $2.80 as the second choice in the field of six.
Proud Pearl paid $12.40 and $5.40, while Jemima's Pearl finished another nose back and was $2.60 to show. Favored Morrow Cove, finished fifth.
"No matter where she is in the race she always comes with a nice kick so there wasn't really any game plan going into the race," Shaun Bridgmohan said after riding Wine Princess to her first graded stakes win.
