Catania's Lodi extends contract until 2016

CATANIA, Sicily (AP) -- Catania midfielder Francesco Lodi has signed a new four-year deal with the Sicilian club.

Lodi's new contract ties him to the club until June 30, 2016.

Lodi moved to Catania in January 2011, in a co-ownership deal with Empoli. He impressed enough to see Catania exercise its option to buy him outright at the end of the season.

Catania is currently seventh in the Serie A standings, with 11 points from seven matches.
