Mississippi State is trying to win its fourth straight Egg Bowl, which would extend the school's longest streak in the series since the 1940s. Only three teams in MSU history have won at least nine regular season games. Mississippi is trying to take back in-state bragging rights and also become bowl eligible for the first time since 2009.


Mississippi sophomore QB Bo Wallace vs. Mississippi State's defense. Wallace has had a solid first season as the Rebels' starter, throwing for 2,549 yards and 14 touchdowns. He's also been mistake-prone with 13 interceptions. Mississippi State's veteran secondary -- led by Thorpe Award finalist CB Johnthan Banks -- will try to make it a long day for Wallace.


Mississippi State: QB Tyler Russell. The junior from Meridian, Miss., has been one of the most consistent passing threats in the SEC, throwing for 2,523 yards, 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He now has the single-season school records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and 200-yard passing games.

Mississippi: WR Donte Moncrief. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound sophomore from Raleigh, Miss., has become Wallace's favorite target, catching 53 passes for 775 yards and seven touchdowns. He's fifth in the SEC with more than 70 receiving yards per game.


Mississippi State's Russell was named the SEC player of the week on Monday after completing 19 of 32 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns in a blowout win over Arkansas. ... Russell has already thrown for 34 career touchdowns, which ranks second on the Mississippi State career list. ... Senior receiver Chad Bumphis caught his 21st and 22nd career touchdowns against Arkansas, which broke the school record. ... Redshirt freshman LB Benardrick McKinney has 87 tackles, which is second among freshmen nationally. ... Ole Miss has scored in 35 of its 38 trips to the red zone (92.1 percent), which ranks No. 2 in the SEC and T-7th in the NCAA. ... Ole Miss has lost its past two games to Vanderbilt and LSU by a combined seven points. The Rebels blew fourth-quarter leads in both games. ... Redshirt freshman LB Denzel Nkemdiche leads the Rebels with 75 tackles, including 12 for a loss. He also has four forced fumbles and two interceptions.
