MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- Isaiah Canaan had 20 points and nine assists to lead Murray State to a 70-61 victory over Ohio Valley Conference-rival Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Saturday night.
Ed Daniel added 15 points and 11 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season.
After trailing the entire first half, Murray State (14-4, 5-1) went on a 20-5 run in the second half to take the lead for the first time with 11:20 left in the game.
Murray State, which was outrebounded 37-30, had 11 steals and outscored SIU-Edwardsville from the bench 28-7.
Both Murray State and SIU-Edwardsville (6-10, 2-4) shot 45 percent from the field -- the Racers hit 25 of 55 and the Cougars 23 of 51. The Cougars shot 33 percent (6 of 18) from behind the arc contrasted to the Racers' 27 percent (4 of 15). Murray State forced the Cougars into 22 turnovers
Mark Yelovich's 18 points led the Cougars.
SIU-Edwardsville got on the board 40 seconds into the game. The Racers trailed 24-10 with 6:49 left before halftime, but went on an 8-0 run before the Cougars connected on three jumpers and a layup to again take a 14-point lead, 34-20.
Murray State trailed 34-23 coming out of the break before going on a 20-5 run and taking the lead for the first time with a layup by Canaan 9:40 into the half.
A minute later, the Cougars again took the lead before Daniel secured two free throws and a jumper by Canaan tilted the score to 53-50 in the Racers' favor.
A jumper from Canaan, a layup and free throws from Daniel, a dunk from Stacy Wilson and a layup from Brandon Garrett pushed the Racers to a 60-52 lead.
The final minute featured Murray State free throws from Garrett, Wilson and Dexter Fields, and a dunk and jumper by Kris Davis.
