Wakaso has scan on knee, no ligament damage

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (AP) -- Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says winger Wakaso Mubarak has no ligament damage to his knee after he went to the hospital for an MRI scan.

Appiah says the Espanyol midfielder will likely need a few days to recover but should be available for a possible African Cup of Nations quarterfinal. He was suspended anyway for Ghana's final group game against Niger.

Wakaso was carried off on a stretcher after hurting his left knee in an eventful game for the youngster against Mali on Thursday.

He scored the penalty that gave Ghana a 1-0 win, was yellow carded and suspended for his celebration, and then hurt himself in the second half.

Ghana tops Group B and can qualify for the quarterfinals with a draw against Niger in Port Elizabeth on Monday.
