EPL strugglers Wigan and Southampton draw 2-2

WIGAN, England (AP) -- Shaun Maloney salvaged what could prove to be a vital point for Wigan against fellow English Premier League struggler Southampton, clinching a 2-2 draw in the 90th minute on Saturday.

It looked like it would be an even better day for Wigan when Gary Caldwell headed the hosts into the lead in the 25th minute but Southampton was a constant threat and Rickie Lambert leveled in the 64th.

Southampton then thought the game was won when Morgan Schneiderlin finished off a counterattack in the 85th.

But there was still time for Maloney to prod the ball in from a corner.

Wigan remains in the drop zone, but is above Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers and just two points behind Reading and three adrift of Southampton.
